Where do people eat in Crozet?
Crozet's restaurants sit in four clusters. The Square downtown holds Fardowners, Mudhouse, Sal's Pizza and New China within a block. Piedmont Place at 2025 Library Avenue holds four under one roof: Smoked Kitchen and Tap, Bar Botanical on the rooftop, CroZeli and Crozet Creamery. Heathercroft off Route 250 holds Coconut Thai and Mi Rancho, with more on Four Leaf Lane. Old Trail Village has Restoration and Grit Coffee. Crozet Pizza sits on its own on Three Notch'd Road, where it has been since 1977.
Can you swim in Crozet?
In two places. Mint Springs Valley Park has a lifeguarded seasonal swimming beach, and Claudius Crozet Park has a year-round pool inside its membership-based Aquatics and Fitness Center. Swimming is prohibited in Beaver Creek Lake and in the Sugar Hollow reservoir. The Blue Hole swimming spot at Sugar Hollow is upstream on the Moormans River, about a mile and a half in on foot, not in the reservoir itself.
Is the Blue Ridge Tunnel free to walk?
Yes. The Claudius Crozet Blue Ridge Tunnel trail is free, with free parking at both trailheads, and it reopened to the public in 2020 after two decades of restoration work. The trail runs 2.25 miles each way between the Afton and Waynesboro trailheads. The tunnel interior holds between 50 and 65 degrees year-round, is completely unlit, and has water dripping from the ceiling, so a headlamp and a jacket are required. There are no restrooms or water fountains on the trail.
How many wineries are near Crozet?
Seven wineries and breweries carry Crozet or White Hall addresses. Another fourteen sit within about twenty minutes in Afton, Greenwood and Free Union. Beyond that, another eighteen in Nelson County, Waynesboro, Keswick and Charlottesville are day trips rather than local. Crozet sits inside the Monticello American Viticultural Area, which is the reason for the density.
What is there to do in Crozet with kids?
Claudius Crozet Park is the default: athletic fields, a playground, a year-round pool, a 1.5-acre dog park and a paved 0.85-mile walking loop on 22 acres in the middle of town. Beyond that, the lifeguarded swimming beach at Mint Springs in summer, pick-your-own fruit at Chiles Peach Orchard from strawberries in spring through pumpkins in November, the flat east approach to the Blue Ridge Tunnel, Wildrock's nature playscape, and the Crozet Connector Trail for bikes. Note that Chiles does not allow dogs, and Bar Botanical, Septenary and WildManDan are adults-only.
