Two, both a short drive away and both unusual in structure rather than generic prep schools — one all-boys middle school in town, one co-ed boarding and day school on a large campus southwest of it.
An all-boys middle school on Crozet Avenue, built entirely around the years when boys most often disengage from school. Its motto — every boy known, every boy a brother — is the actual operating model: the school is small on purpose, and the arc ends with students heading to Western Albemarle or to boarding schools for ninth grade.
