What is The Field School?
The Field School is a private, nonsectarian middle school for boys in grades 5 through 8, located right on Crozet Avenue — the only private school actually inside Crozet. It enrolls roughly 85 students, all boys, with a deliberately low student-teacher ratio.
It's a genuine alternative to the public middle-school track rather than a feeder into it: families choosing Field School are opting out of Henley Middle for a smaller, single-sex programme, then moving on to a public or private high school afterward. One thing to factor in before you buy nearby: the school is leaving Crozet for a new Barracks Road campus, expected to open for 2027-28.

Founded in September 2007, Field School first operated out of the Claudius Crozet Park Community Building before moving to the old 1924 Crozet high school building on Crozet Avenue in 2009. It is now building a campus of its own and preparing to leave Crozet.
