Miller School of Albemarle is a coeducational, college-preparatory day and boarding school for grades 8 through 12 plus a postgraduate year, set on a 1,100-acre campus at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a short drive from Crozet. It enrolls about 255 students, with roughly a third boarding and two-thirds attending as day students.
Founded in 1878 with a $1.1 million bequest from Samuel Miller, it's one of the oldest coeducational boarding schools in the country. Boarding students arrive from 15 states and 16 countries, and the campus itself — including the historic Old Main building — is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Because it's a private school, GreatSchools doesn't publish a numeric rating for Miller — that rating relies on state-reported test data, which private schools don't submit.
It's a college-prep alternative to the public high school track, drawing students from any middle school and sending them straight on to college.

Girls were first admitted in 1884. The school's mascot changed from the Red Devils to the Mavericks in 2008. Old Main, the original 1874 academic building built by Albert M. Lybrook and designed by architect D. Wiley Anderson in the Gothic Revival style, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
